Ayurveda is about getting to know ourselves and how we function best at any given time. Many factors play into this including: your basic constitution (the innate balance you were born with), age, surrounding environment, the season, the well being of your constitution due to the listed factors and more. How all of these combine create your current state of health or dis-ease. Knowing yourself is what the science of Ayurveda is all about!
Periodic cleansing, through Ayurveda techniques, filters out unwanted and unnecessary build up (known as Ama). This strengthens our metabolic activity, clears the mind, and helps us discover what it feels like when the body is functioning at its best. A similar comparison is to think of how much easier it is to navigate through a space once you've tidied up!
There are many things that you already know about yourself that will naturally fall into the Ayurveda model, and more that you'll discover through a journey of awareness. Learning about ourselves is ongoing, throughout our whole lifetime!
Often in our culture, you've been exposed in different ways to look outside yourself for the answers to health and wellbeing, such as in an ad where they say 'such and such herb or practice is good.' This suggestion does not necessarily work for everyone.
Ayurveda has many tools and techniques that encourages, first and foremost, that the answers are within. These answers are accessed through addressing food choices, habits, and lifestyle. To explore, Ayurveda asks these questions: how much, how long, under what conditions ----- is good for me?
Ayurveda is so useful in helping us through this life journey. It's practices, lifestyle suggestions, and herbal formulas, treat each individual uniquely given the particular set of circumstances that are presenting for that person. Ayurveda is the Science of Life.
