Deepening Practices: Maturing the Foundations
The course objective is to create a deeper
foundation of basic yoga information.
We will review the basics of asana, pranayama,
meditation, drsti, mudra, mantra, bandha, yantra,
We will delve into the effect of yoga tools in
relationship to yogic anatomy, ayurveda, and
kalpa (cycles of life).
A general overview of many classical yoga texts
rounds out the course.

Yoga Chikitsa is the therapeutic application of yoga. There are many formats for Yoga Chikitsa -- structural yoga therapy, ayurveda yoga therapy, psychological therapy, and more. This course that we offer is based on the classical application, including all of the above in a balanced presentation.
Requirements for the Yoga Chikitsa program include a minimal 500 hour training, three years of teaching prior to beginning the program, an application form including a test, and an interview. You must have a minimum 500 RYT or equivalent training. If you have not previously trained through PranaYoga and/or based on the evaluation of the examination, you may be required to take the Bridge Program. The bridge program will give you the basic preparatory information for the full yoga therapy training.
Each class will review the basic information, developing a foundation to support your participation in the Yoga Cikitsa training. The classes will cover the information as follows, yet be adapted to the individual needs of the people registered in the course.
- anatomically safe asana movement and back body breathing
- yoga tools: pranayama, meditation, mudra, mantra and drsti
- comprehensive overview of classical yoga anatomy including kosha, chakra, nadi, pranavayu
- Ayurveda philosophy and the importance for Yoga Chikitsa
- dinacarya practices and diet
- spiritual tools of yoga including yantra, mahavidya, ritual
- foundations of assisting and art of sequencing
- foundations of adaptations and use of props
- western anatomy and pathology considerations
- in-depth review of the Yoga Sutras
- in-depth review of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Gheranda Samhita
- in-depth review of the Shiva Samhita, Yoga Yajnavalkaya and Sandilya Upanishad
- kalpa, age and gender considerations
Applicants must have practiced yoga for at least two years. You must have completed the Contemplative Hatha Yoga program or equivalent, preferably from a Yoga Alliance registered school. Must have minimum 200 RYT or equivalent training.

Cost of the Program
A $150 application fee is due with registration. Students may arrange to pay the tuition through monthly payments.
